Somatic therapies
“After trauma, the world is experienced with a different nervous system. The survivor’s energy now becomes focused on suppressing inner chaos, at the expense of spontaneous involvement in their life.”
Dr Bessel van der Kolk The Body Keeps the Score I offer connections to various somatic (body-focussed) therapies that are helpful in moving and completing trapped trauma patterns, which allow clients to re-engage in a more positive way with the world and to develop freedom and greater engagement with life. Below are certifications and trainings of the modalities I work with. For complex issues, I will engage other therapists to create a holistic treatment programme. |

Trauma Informed Stabilisation TreatmentCreated by Dr Janina Fisher. TIST draws on neuroscience. sensorimotor psychotherapy and parts work to create a beautifully nuanced way to work with the aggravated, jangly and wounded parts of ourselves.
Needing little narrative or story, TIST is wonderful for guiding towards repair and is successful in treating a variety of conditions- complex PTSD, bipolar, structural dissociation and addictive and eating disorders. By contextualising self destructive behaviours as trauma related, and building relationships between parts, clients can develop greater internal relationships and begin to develop and work with motivation to overcome their self destructive tendencies. Contact Family ConstellationsDeveloped by Burt Hellinger and referencing Zulu cultural practice, Gestalt and psychodynamic therapy this is an embodied approach that helps to uncover often subconscious and hidden dynamics within a family system that may be impacting relationships and preventing healing.
It helps to free clients from damaging and often trans-generational patterns, behaviours and emotions that limit life in various ways. Ultimately, “it is a way of healing the individual soul by aligning it in the right relationship to the family soul” (Longo-Lockspeiser, 2018) Most commonly worked in a physical group setting, it is also possible to work individually.
